💼 Create a job
The first step towards inviting candidates to any assessment on Spark Hire is to add a job. All assessments are associated with a job and your candidates will see the job details before they start.
A couple pro tips:
Copy and paste is your friend here! You can use information you have about the job on other platforms to complete this part.
You don’t need to do everything. You’ll see steps for features like Intro and Outro Videos and a Questionnaire, but you can skip over this and come back to it later (if you desire).

👷♀️ Build an assessment
Once you've created the job, your next action depends on the type of assessment. While we've detailed multiple assessment types below, just focus on the type you're looking to start with.
One-Way Video Interview
Before inviting candidates to a one-way video interview, you'll need to:
- Create a question set
- Save it on the relevant job
To do this, go to the job you want to invite candidates to a one-way video interview for and click on Assessments.
Under the section for One-Way Video Interview, choose an existing question set from the dropdown or click Create new.
Give your interview question set a name. Many customers use a job title if the question set is job specific or a term to describe what’s being evaluated (e.g. Culture Fit) if it’s one that’ll be used across multiple roles.
You can add up to 10 questions, but the average number that other customers use is 6.
After creating the question set, you'll save it on the job and it'll now be the default question set used when you invite candidates to a one-way video interview for this job.
Predictive Talent Assessment
Before inviting candidates to a Predictive Talent Assessment, you'll need to:
- Select or create a Predictive Profile
- Save it on the relevant job
A Predictive Profile is a set of behavioral competencies aligned with what's needed for the role. When a candidate takes a Predictive Talent Assessment, they'll be scored against the Predictive Profile you choose.
There are two types of Predictive Profiles:
- Standardized: pre-set groupings of competencies that align with specific role types based on research.
- Custom: You choose a set of competencies aligned with what your organization believes to be important for a specific role.
We recommend starting with a Standardized Predictive Profile (you can view the list of them here), but if one doesn't match the job you're assessing for, you can certainly build a custom one.
First, go to the job you want to invite candidates to a Predictive Talent Assessment for for and click on Assessments.
Under the section for Predictive Talent Assessment, choose a Standardized Predictive Profile from the dropdown or click Create new to start building a Custom Predictive Profile.
After deciding on the Predictive Profile you're going to use, you'll save it on the job and it'll now be the Predictive Profile used when you invite candidates to take a Predictive Talent Assessment for this job.
Reference Check
Before requesting references from your candidates, you'll need to:
- Create a reference survey
- Save it on the relevant job
To do this, go to the job you want to request references for and click on Assessments.
Under the section for Reference Check, choose an existing reference survey from the dropdown or click Create new.
A reference survey is a series of questions that your candidates' references will be asked. Learn more about how to create a reference survey here.
After creating the reference survey, you'll save it on the job along with how many references you want to request per candidate.
Now, when you request references from candidates for this job, this will be the default reference survey and number of references requested.
⚙️ Review your default Job Settings
This an optional step, but we always recommend squaring away some default settings before inviting candidates.
Specifically, for one-way video interviews, the 2 things to consider include:
- Turn on automatic deadline extensions (Manage this here)
- Enable interview transcripts and AI summaries (Do this here)
📤 Invite Candidates
With foundation built for the relevant assessment type, you can now start inviting candidates!
