A One-Way Interview consists of you creating a series of interview questions that a candidate will answer on video at their convenience.

There are two ways to invite candidates to a One-Way Interview on Spark Hire:

  • Option 1: Invite through Spark Hire (described in this article) – This sends a branded email (and optional SMS) to the candidate via Spark Hire.
  • Option 2: Using an Interview link – Instead of sending an email (and SMS) from Spark Hire to invite your candidates, the interview link feature gives you a link that you can insert anywhere you want. For example, you can put the interview link in a personal email to a candidate.

Invite candidates to a One-Way Video Interview through Spark Hire

  1. From the Assessment list, click Invite at the top of the page and select One-Way Interview. Alternatively, when viewing a specific job, click Invite on the right and select One-Way Interview.

  2. You’ll be redirected to the Invite page, where the assessment type will be pre-populated.
  3. Select the job you want the interview to be for and a question set.

  4. Enter the candidate’s name, email, and phone number if relevant.

    • Add up to 1000 candidates in bulk by uploading a CSV file. To do this, click CSV upload, download the template, fill the columns with the relevant candidates, and re-upload the file.
    • You also have the option to send candidates updates via SMS text messages.
⚠️ The CSV and SMS features are not available to some legacy plans.
  5. Optionally, customize your email invitation.
    • Default: If you have set up default email templates for one-way interview invites in your email template library, they will automatically be used as the default content for your invitations.
    • Customize: If you want to edit the email invitation content or choose another template, select this option. Customize the content or choose a new email template by clicking Select template and selecting one from the list.

  6. Set a completion deadline by selecting a due date or a number of days. Regardless of how it's displayed (as a date or duration), the deadline is based on when the invite is sent.

📝 Note: Deadline behavior is different when using Interview links, where you can choose to expire the link after a specific number of days from when the candidate starts the interview, or on a specific date.
  7. When you're ready to finish, click Send invites.

FAQ

How much time should I give candidates to complete their One-Way Interview?

One of the biggest benefits of One-Way Video Interviews is the convenience they provide. Candidates can complete the interview whenever, wherever. Giving candidate's the appropriate amount of time to complete the interview enables them to truly take advantage of the opportunity. If you're recruiting passive candidates that are already working from 9-5, the more flexibility you can provide, the better. This is why we recommend giving candidates between 5 and 7 days to complete a One-Way Interview.

After all, what better way to showcase your brand by providing candidates with a comfortable and flexible interview schedule?

Can Meet users try the One-Way Video Interview experience?

Yes. Meet users can preview the candidate experience by taking part in a One-Way Interview.

To invite them, use an email address that is different from the one they use to log in to Meet, such as a personal email address. Assessments can’t be sent to email addresses linked to Meet company users.
