Candidates may need another attempt when they experience a technical issue, have trouble with their audio or video, or misunderstand a question. You can invite them to retake specific One-Way Video Interview questions without restarting the full interview.
When you invite a candidate to retake questions:
- You choose which questions they can answer again
- Responses to questions you do not select remain unchanged
- Existing evaluations for the interview are permanently deleted
- The candidate receives an automatic notification with instructions to retake the selected questions
Invite a candidate to retake questions
You can invite candidates to retake interview questions from the candidate profile, Assessment viewer, or Assessment list. The candidate is automatically notified when you send it.
| ⚠️ Important: Sending a retake invitation deletes previous responses to the selected questions and permanently deletes all existing interview evaluations, including evaluations of questions you did not select. Review existing responses and evaluations before inviting candidates to retake questions. |
- Find the candidate and click the three-dot menu next to their One-Way Video Interview.
Select Invite to retake from the options.
Under Select questions, choose the questions you want the candidate to answer again. Select Select all to include all questions. Each question shows its current status:
- Submitted: The candidate submitted a response.
- Skipped: The candidate skipped the question.
- Error: An error occurred with the response.
- Not answered yet: The candidate has not answered the question. In an incomplete interview, these questions remain selected and cannot be deselected, so the candidate can finish the interview.
- Under Set deadline, review the due date and allow enough time for the candidate to respond. Meet suggests a deadline based on the interview's current status:
- For a completed or expired interview, the deadline defaults to five days after you send the invitation
For an incomplete interview that has not expired, the original deadline remains selected
You can change the deadline before sending the invitation.
- Select Invite to retake.
Meet automatically notifies the candidate and provides a link to return to the interview.
What happens to existing evaluations
Inviting a candidate to retake questions permanently deletes all existing evaluations for that One-Way Video Interview.
This applies to the full interview, not only the questions you select for a retake. Review any existing evaluations before you send the invitation.
What the candidate experiences
The candidate receives a notification after you send the invitation. They can use the provided link to return to the interview and complete the selected questions before the deadline.
- For a completed interview, they only need to retake the questions you selected.
- For an incomplete interview, they also need to complete questions they have not answered yet.
- Previously submitted responses to questions you did not select remain unchanged.
- They do not need to retake questions that you did not select.
